Host a Let's Talk Film Screening
Let’s Talk—a short film featuring three families with one mission: breaking down the misperceptions about people with limited to no verbal speech who use Augmentative/Alternative Communication (AAC). Have you ever found yourself unsure of what to do when you see someone with a disability? Do you look away, do you stare, do you say “hello”? Do you wonder if they have interests, desires and dreams? Do you want to learn more about your neighbors who have complex communication impairments and how to engage in meaningful interactions and develop friendships?
Join us in learning more about people who, first and foremost, are people; people who face multiple challenges that impact how they are able to participate in their lives. Join us in breaking down misperceptions about what a person is able to do, what a person is able to contribute and what a person is able to become. What people are saying about the film...
“I was so moved by the Let's Talk film! Never again will I assume that a person who is unable to communicate verbally has nothing to say. They want and have every right to participate and have their voices heard. These precious members of our community have so much to teach us about patience, perseverance, kindness and compassion if we will simply pay attention.”-Jami Reynolds
“Thank you for opening my eyes! When I have seen a child or adult who doesn't verbally speak with an aide or helper by their side, I always felt I couldn't speak directly to them. I am so grateful for the opportunity to see these bright young people speaking out and letting me know they are quite able to speak for themselves and enjoy a good conversation!”-Hope Sleesman
“So it is my view - as a parent, as a professional, as a campaigner and concerned member of society, that these films that Lori and her team have been producing are one of the most important pieces of work to have emerged from the speech and communication sector - ever. I truly hope that they get the exposure that they deserve. They have changed my outlook and that of my family. They are nothing short of breathtaking. Well done!”-Chris L. Longden

In August of 2016 our group resolved to create a film highlighting AAC to help people feel more comfortable talking with someone with significant communication impairments. News of our ambition reached the ears of James Drake Films and Colorado Film Guy who graciously volunteered their time, equipment and expertise to film, edit and produce our film clips. The experience was an amazing one for all of our Let’s Talk members and their families.
Excitingly, on Wednesday, June 14th, our Let's Talk group premiered our film to a SOLD OUT audience at AMC Southlands Theatre in Aurora, CO. The feedback we have received from our event has been incredibly positive. Our community truly wants to learn more about our neighbors who have complex communication impairments and how to engage in meaningful interactions and develop friendships.
We are currently scheduling speaking engagements for 2018. If your school or organization is interested in learning more about people who use Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC), please complete and submit the form below. We will contact you as soon as possible. Thank you for your interest in learning more about people who use Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC).
